VC1 OLIVE VC2 OLD GOLD VC3 RED
VC4 BEIGE VC7 BOTTLE VC6 MAROON
ALSO AVAILABLE IN BLACK THE ABOVE ARE THE MOST POPULAR COLOURS ,OTHERS ARE AVAILABLE
The above are the gold and or blind tooled leathers, together with black ,that we can offer,we would advise that the choice tooling is normally left to our craftsmen as they have a great deal of experience and will supply a leather that will be appropeate for your antique It should be noted as with all leathers, the skins are a natural product and occasionally have an inconsistent grain or scars and scratches.Every care is taken to avoid such marks on the finished leather, but occasionally, particulary for larger skivers, imperfections have to be accomodated. Please also note that larger desktop skivers may have to be jointed, this is normal and the joins are tooled over to disguise this.
Edging or Clamp
Please note the above are not to scale and are only to indicate the quality of embossing we can supply, the exact patterns may not always be available.
If you do wish to select your own toolings we now have many different designs that are available to us,in either gold or blind (a black indent"clamp"),which is sometimes used inside gold tooling. As a rule we tool the edge of the leather with a blind edge roll,if the client wishes another design this is no problem.
The above prices are for guidance only, they do not include delivery, please contact us for a quotation
Fitting Leathers for Desks,Tables and Writing Slopes
The surface of the table, desk or slope top must be prepared by removing all traces of previous covering of glue and leather using a scraper. First, check the size of the leather is as ordered and will fit the furniture ,in the recess. Using a straight edge and a sharp craft knife, trim two adjoining sides of the leather to create a prepared corner. As leather is easily stretched out of shape, apply glue to the surface where it is to lie and the reverse side of the leather.A contact adhesive such as Thixofix or thinned PVA are equally good for the job, spread the adhesive evenly with a comb edge spreader. Carefully position the pre-cut corner and spread the rest of the leather little by little, using your fingers or a soft cloth to press out the air bubbles, take care not to stretch the leather and check for correct alignment with all edges The waste will overlap the remaining two sides, press the leather into the edge of the recess with a blunt tool,(e,g,a spoon handle) thus making a line for trimming, which can be done with a sharp craft knife. Starting in at he corner as the knife blade cuts along the line, pull away the waste strip of leather and your skiver will exactly fit the rebate
We can also supply leather bookshelf edging at £8.95 per.running foot to our standard designs,or to you template at £9.65 per running foot.
